Can I hire someone to pull weeds?

Anonymous
We did all new plantings last year, so it will be a couple years before our mulch beds fill out. In the meantime, I would prefer not to spend hours a week weeding. I know this is kind of lazy, but is hiring landscapers to pull weeds for a few hours a thing? If so, how much would one pay for it? Thinking that even doing that once a month would cut down a decent amount on our weekly weeding.

I would love to know as well!

For weeds I would post a message on NextDoor and get a kid to do it.

That takes laziness to another level. Good god.

How is it different than outsourcing any other landscaping task?

I pay for a monthly garden bed weeding. Most lawn/ landscaping companies do it. I am in MoCo and use a service called Total Care Lawn /Landscaping. They also mow the lawn weekly, and do the leaves in fall, and a spring cleanup.
The trick is to make sure you hire a company that knows about plants, and isn’t just a lawn service, so they know the difference between a plant and a weed.

Add a few more inches of mulch. You’ll cut down on the weeds.

It’s not lazy, but it’s very hard to find someone to hire who can identify what’s a weed. If you have mostly bare mulch and only a few plants, it’s easier. If you have a dense and varied perennial yard, it’s hard.

If someone is planning a garden and wants to outsource the maintenance I would advise them to stick with shrubs and annual beds. Maybe some large grasses.

After the big spring clean up where leaves are blown, weeds are pulled, bushes trimmed, mulch added, my landscaper comes once a month in the spring/summer for clean up - pulling weeds, picking up branches, trimming bushes, etc. He also cleans the gutters a 2-3 times as we have a lot of large trees on our property.

What?? Are you nuts?? Between work, kids, school, commuting, sports, doctor appointments, etc…who has time to weed their yard?! Especially a huge yard like mine that also needs mowing, mulching, pruning, trimming, aerating, etc!!!

$80 plus $80 for gutters. These were last year's prices.

Why does it need weekly weeding? We put mulch down in the spring and it is usually good all summer.

Yes, but you might need to work with them to make sure they identify weeds correctly. Many landscaping business do not take the time to actually pull the weeds, the just cut them back and then mulch over. I have a neighbor who hires a high school kid to do this. She's out there working at the same time sometimes, since she loves gardening, but now that she's older the kid does the heavy lifting.

There are kids on Nextdoor begging to do that for you. $10 an hour in most cases.
