Kitchen needs remodeling. Hasn't been remodeled by previous owner since 1960. No motivation to cook

I do like to cook but looking at this run down kitchen that the previous owners and my dad who left my mom didn't fix its so depressing to cook in. The floors are warped and a mess due to my dad's cheap do it yourself. I can't make repairs on it because idk what will happen to the house yet. How to motivate self to cook? A nice kitchen will definitely motivate me to cook and lose the 10lbs I packed on by eating out.

Buy some things you can take with you. That cutting board, or knives, or really good skillet you’ve been wanting. Those may make things more fun.

A good gel mat may cover some of the ugly floor. Get one in front of your sink and another in front of your cooktop, as big as you can find (and whatever’s pretty to your taste).

So did you inherit the house? Put some money into it!

I'd start by setting aside one day to really scrub it clean. I hate cleaning with a passion, but this is one area it really helps. It's partly washing away the grime and partly washing away any bad memories and resentment. When the counters and cabinets are shiny clean - even if they are still uneven and wobbly - you'll feel like you can make a fresh start in what is now YOUR kitchen, not theirs. Put in a gel mat, get some bright and cheerful kitchen towels.

Then I'd pick one thing I really want to cook. Not a week's worth of meals, not even necessarily something healthy or productive toward my long term goals. Just something that makes me feel good. Maybe a childhood comfort food, or maybe a new curry I've been wanting to try. Build good memories.

Get a nice grill with side burner.
Weather is nice to cook outdoors for next couple months (although rain could suck).

How long until you know if you can make renovations?
