| Current MCPS teacher here, currently looking to change grade levels and/or schools. I've been applying to positions since February and I have heard nothing back from any school. All of my current job submissions still say "Application Received"-I haven't had any "No Longer Under Consideration" emails, no "Under Reviews", nothing, just stagnant. Anyone have any insights into hiring right now? |
| I applied for a job in early February and have yet to get the “no longer under consideration” email. The job was filled and it’s reflected on the MCPS staff directory page, but nothing. There must be something going on with the system or steps that aren’t being followed. |
| A couple people at my school have gotten jobs at other schools for next year. I noticed a lot of positions have been up for a long time though. Did you send emails to principals at the schools you're interested in? I know that doesn't explain the lack of any kind of hiring updates, though. |
| Because like everything else in MCPS, HR is understaffed. |
| It could be that principals are busy with other issues this time of year? Our school was very slow to post some vacancies and just now getting around to scheduling interviews even though the teachers obtained jobs before break |
Not OP but another teacher looking to get out of my building… they shouldn’t be posting positions then if they don’t have the “time” to deal with them. The deadline for non-tenured teachers to formally resign without penalty is quickly approaching and I’d like to know what I’m doing next year before that date. Oh well. Definitely time to ramp up the job search in other counties it appears. |
This. Following up is critical. |
No, HR is way behind... |
| What about summer? I'm trying to get a position and no one has responded. I'm about to look outside of MCPS. Does anyone know of any other districts that hire outside educators for the summer? (or even forever??? lol j/k but not really) |
What do you teach? |
Used to be a teacher in MCPS. That's never been the case. We never had to follow-up because we were internal candidates. Usually the hiring process at this point in the year is rapid. I don't know what is going on this year, but if I had to guess, knowing MCPS (and having friends in central office), it's almost like central office intentionally wants to keep hiring at a standstill right now so non-tenured teachers will be trapped for next year. |

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if some transfers/applications/positions are being slow walked in order to avoid some schools from losing too many staff or too many high need positions. I think there are a lot of unintended consequences from current MCPS policies that are having a huge affect on staff morale.
Notice that Gallop staff feedback about schools hasn't been updated since 2014. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/info/gallup/ Maryland School survey results have not been released since 2019: https://sharedaccountability.mcpsmd.org/SurveyResults/content.php |
| Check the transfer windows, based on subject and grade level, your window may not even be open |
| DCPS just gave their teachers a significant raise. They might be trying to avoid people jumping ship. |
As bad as MCPS is, DCPS is worse. Not worth the extra $. |
