Saying I love you

Anonymous
How often do you and your spouse say I love you to each other?
Anonymous
Once or twice a day. It's the last thing we say to each other before we fall asleep each night.

At least twice a day.

We pretty much never say it. We love each other, we just don’t say it out loud to each other.

Never.
But we don't love each other so it works out.

+1. Recently had our 20th anniversary and neither one of us mentioned it.

special occasions - birthdays, marriage days

Whenever I leave the house.

Always when we go to bed, at the same or different times. I would guess at least one other time 3-5 days or more a week. Always end phone calls with it.

I’ve been paying more attention to this since I saw the post last week. Sometimes we go to bed at different times without saying so love you, but generally each night. We both work from home, but if we’re headed on a trip or out for the day we’ll say it too. (Like I say it if I’m headed to the office but probably not if I’m headed out for a walk.) Also when one of us does something weird or nerdy etc like “oh my gosh! I can’t believe you did that! I mean I love you, but seriously?”

So maybe 5-10 times a week all told?

My parents have been married over 50 years and my dad NEVER says I love you. A few years ago I had a really hard visit to my parents and when I was leaving for the airport he hugged me and said he loved me. It was nice to hear - I can’t think of another time in my 44 years he said that. If I say “love you dad!” His typical response is something like “thanks! It’s so great talking to you.” Like we know he loves us, but just doesn’t say it.

All day, many times, married 30 years. It's always the last thing we say before we go to sleep & something we say before we leave out the door.

+1. But only married 16 years.

I don't ever say "I love you" to my spouse. I usually just instruct him - kiss me! hug me! cuddle me! - and he does.

Constantly. Love that man so much.

+2, married 17 years. Always before either of us leaves the house, usually at bed time, sometimes before one of us leaves the room (like if I stop to chat with my wife while she's working from home and then go back to my desk), sometimes just randomly. Probably fiveish times a day minimum?
