If you classify yourself as UMC, how much do you spend in total each month?

HHI - 550-600k

We budget about 12-15k a month but that has a few thousand dollar buffer in the event of unforeseen expenses. Curious what others spend, all in.

This does not include our savings.

Probably about 17k per month in total expenditures (5k mortgage). I don't actually ever sit down and budget by line item or check what was spent. Depends though. Some months we spend more like 12k and others could be 25k

Wow. We are basically twins. Almost same HHI almost same burn rate.

Good to see these numbers! We are right around there too.

We're in a pricey stage of life. We have two toddlers in full time childcare, plus we just bought a house a couple years ago so we're at peak mortgage, too. We're spending every dollar right now - about $12k a month. HHI $210k. We have a healthy emergency fund ($40k), an okay amount saved for retirement ($150k), and no debt besides our mortgage. We're only saving enough right now to get our retirement match.

Without our savings we’re similar. Around 500k income. Two kids in preschool and a nanny.

HHI $325k plus varying bonuses that we just save. Everything below is approximate.
Monthly take home after retirement/health insurance $13900
Mortgage $2900
Daycare $1900
Other fixed bills $900
Excess $8200. We spend about half of that on average.

I'll be honest and say I have no idea what we spend in total and I have an approximate sense of what we both earn. One of the blessings of having enough money is not having to think about it.

Your class has nothing to do with how much you spend per month. People really have a difficult time with this concept.

I am OP and feel the same way. I know we are fine, i just audit ourselves a few times a year to ensure we aren't having too much lifestyle creep.

It definitely does, it just doesn’t dictate whether you spend within your means.

You’re so confused. Obviously people in this class could have wildly different burn rates. That’s why the thread asks about two independent variables.

Wow! What do you do with the rest of the money? I make about $150k and spend about 10k on four people.

I only know because all discretionary expenses go on one credit card with the best travel rewards.

??? How can you do that and pay your taxes? And do you have literally no savings??
