I’m looking for summer sandals that are good for long walks and not too hideous. Does this footwear exist??? Any suggestions welcome!! |
I like my birkenstocks, but I will say I still don't wear them for walks longer than a mile or so.
Athletic type sandals will offer the most support, but will also LOOK like athletic sandals. I'd consider some low profile sneakers too. Though again, I find for longer walks I grab my more durable sneakers over those. |
Birkenstock Kumbas are very comfortable for walking long distances but I think they are more versatile and feminine than other Birkenstocks. |
Luckily, wide strap sandals are very in these days. Lots of options that have good walking support. Birkenstock has big buckle Arizonas that have been featured in InStyle this spring. White or light colored tevas are still in as well. |
Teva has started to make some non-hideous sandals.

I love my Dansko Reece sandals, have walked miles in them both at home and on vacation. You do have to be ok with the toe separation on this style.

Reading the suggestions, it's just really clear that people have different definitions of "okay looking " and "comfortable."
Like I think a lot of those Tevas are fine looking but would never get any of them because they are very sporty looking and would look wrong with most of my clothes. I just don't dress very sporty, even for hiking or vacation. Birkenstocks are super comfortable to me but I know some people find them too hard and lacking in arch support. I think it can vary from shoe to shoe a bit. I hate shoes with straps going between my toes and won't wear them, especially long distances, because they will chafe the skin between my toes. And so on. So you really have to specify the style and requirements for comfort for you, personally. Do you want something sporty/technical looking, something crunchy/natural looking, or something more sophisticated? Do you like leather or want something lighter weight? Do you want something you can wear to dinner, and if so, how fancy of a dinner? Are you walking long distances on city streets or dirt trails or the beach? Do you prefer slides or heel straps? How much arch support? How much cushioning? Do you need ultra-light shoes (common for people who have knee issues or other mobility problems)? And so on. |
Last year I got a pair of vionics in rose gold. I also got a cute simple brown pair that are really comfortable that are walking cradles pool.
I also ordered some from Chaco and rieker that were cute but didn’t work for my feet. For whatever reason, Birkenstocks just don’t fit my feet right. |
These are the ones I referenced above. I think the work with simple dresses or shorts but obviously are t fancy:

Sorel Ella Sandal
I buy a pair every summer and wear them into the ground -- you can hike, walk miles and miles, and I think they look good. Their strap creates an arch support. Love them. https://www.sorel.com/p/womens-ella-ii-sandal-1936651.html?dwvar_1936651_color=240&dwvar_1936651_size=8&ef_id=CjwKCAjw3POhBhBQEiwAqTCuBnBZrYLVb66jaW667hhFtxvJFwrGs8C4ibKiNWFZp0qxVSh_e9dHIRoCxrAQAvD_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!13460!3!445050594372!!!g!1935403938904!!10410889576!103821047432&mid=paidsearch&nid=SOR|Brand|Shopping|All|Google|US-NEW&eid=Google+PLA+US&gclid=CjwKCAjw3POhBhBQEiwAqTCuBnBZrYLVb66jaW667hhFtxvJFwrGs8C4ibKiNWFZp0qxVSh_e9dHIRoCxrAQAvD_BwE |
Wow, nice. Just ordered. NP |
I find these super comfortable and not too ugly. https://www.vionicshoes.com/bella-toe-post-sandal.html?color=20 |
I find Alegria sandals to be extremely comfortable, and also find some of their styles hideous but there are many that are not. The sandals are very adjustable which help with my low volume feet.

I have leather Chaco wayfarers and can walk miles in them w/o issue. |
