| When did you get your positive HPT? Or did you wait for the blood test? |
well...I didn't do NC, but I did go to Dominion (who is the only local clinic to do NC). And you aren't supposed to test before the blood test!!
I did traditional IVF and I waited for the blood test all three times. |
| Why aren't you supposed to test before the blood test? I am at DF too, and the beta isn't until 18 days after 5dt, which is at least 5 days past the time that you should be able to get an accurate result on a HPT. I knew that I was a BFN, but went in for the blood test anyway for them to confirm that. It cost over $300. Why shouldn't we just take a HPT? It's much cheaper. I would be inclined to go in for a blood test if I'd gotten a BFP on a HPT, so that they could confirm that the #s are increasing as expected. |
| I thought there was a possibility of a false positive if you test too early after ART? |
| my opinion: you can do whatever you want to, just know what it may mean (or not mean). if you take a home pregnancy test in the week after a trigger with HCG it will be positive for example, due to the injection. |
I am this poster...and I was giving you a wink...DF prefers that you don't test until blood test. And it is usually a bit of a joke in the office, if you are one who tests prior to blood test or if you are one who waits. I was teasing you...obviously you are one of the testers! With Dr. G, I know he prefers that you wait until the beta, because he feels that the HPTs aren't as reliable. In the past, he has had women go off progesterone and other meds because of a negative HPT, only to find out later that it is a BFP! He usually says positive HPT, you are most likely pregnant. Negative HPT, come into the clinic for a beta just to be sure. I didn't pay for my betas, individually...they were all part of the costs of doing IVF with Dominion...so I didn't even consider the fact that it would cost you additional $$ to get a beta. That really surprises me?? But if that is what you are balancing, I would say yes...do an HPT and get your answer. Trigger should be out of your system by about 10-12 days after the trigger, so do your HPT around then. My beta was always scheduled for 14 days after transfer, whether I had a 3 day transfer or a 5 day transfer. So that meant the equivalent of 19dpo. So, yes, it should be very obvious at that point whether or not you are pg. For my final IVF...I bumped my test out one day so that I would have the test done on a weekend, it makes it easier to accept bad news when one isn't sitting in their office. By 20dpo, my betas were over 4,000...I was initially pregnant with triplets. |
OP here. Thank you, PP, for your sharing your experience. I am definitely a tester, but only when I "feel" I might be pregnant . I also know a week in advance if my period is coming, so it will be an easy decision for me to test or not to test. Although the meds in my system might completely throw me off.
