Will your kid accept TJ offer?

Anonymous
Do you want them to go?

What will they do? What are you considering before the decision?

My son was accepted, and we'll be heavily discussing pros/cons over the next week. I'm concerned about burnout as well as the commute. And while he's very into STEM, he also loves writing and music and is not sure what he wants to study in college yet (I mean, he's only in 8th grade, after all). Not sure he wants to put all his eggs in the STEM basket with TJ.

But he is a super high achiever and I worry that his home high school just won't provide a challenge for him. Also, not sure if being a top student at a regular public school or being middle-of-the-pack at TJ is more impressive to colleges. Lots to think about!

He’s not sure. There is a lot to consider. He’s smart and motivated, but not especially into STEM. I worry some about the workload/intensify/time commitment of TJ, and it’s unlikely he’d be able to continue his sport at the current level if he goes. But it’s obviously a great opportunity in many ways….

If anyone with older kids declined an offer, what was your/your kid’s reason, and did you or the kid regret it?

Folks,

PLEASE keep in mind that there are people whose kids are waitlisted who will post on these boards attempting to make TJ less attractive to give their kid a better shot.

Take what you hear here with a grain of salt and go find out yourself at Preview Night.

Of course we are accepting! The only kids that are not accepting, are the ones who didn’t get offers

Agree with this. Please talk to parents of kids who are currently attending who can share their experiences and go to preview night. We will be doing the same. I have seen many posts on this forum trying to steer people away from accepting.
