UPS store will take and reuse clean cardboard boxes

I posted a similar message in off-topic and was mocked for being naive. I wanted to mention that my UPS store happily takes cardboard boxes and re-uses them, which I have to think is better for the environment than recycling. I spoke with a UPS employee at my store and asked her whether they just recycle the boxes that we bring in, or whether they actually re-use them. She confirmed that they do in fact re-use them and they are happy to have them. These are boxes that I bring in shortly after receiving them in the mail, so they are not dirty, wet, etc. I guess that now that Amazon and other sellers allow people to return items without boxes at the store, they are in constant need of boxes to ship items. I encourage you to ask your local store about their policy. It feels great to see these nearly new boxes get re-used rather than processed in the recycling. (Before you flame me, I know that obviously would be better to not have so much shipped to the house.)

I saw your other post and I appreciated it, I considered it helpful. So, even when some of us don't post back, we did tell our DH to go check with the local UPS before putting all the boxes from packages in the recycling.

Hmm… I just called my nearest UPS (Capitol Hill location) and they do not take boxes. I think this may be specific to the UPS location in OP’s neighborhood. Has anyone else had luck?

They take recyclables in two or three UPS stores in my area

My UPS doesn’t recycle either.

Our UPS doesn’t either unfortunately. But you can also return hangers to dry cleaners, vases to florists, and ink cartridges to Staples.
