| I read about it here and then read the MoCo website. It looks like my daughter would qualify. We would be moving from Fairfax. Does anyone know if she could be found eligible over the summer and then move straight into the MoCo program, or would she need to go into a gen Ed classroom first? If you have experience with this program, please tell me how it’s worked for your child. DD has autism, ADHD, anxiety and is gifted. |

You should join the GTLD Network (for parents of mcps GTLD kids) and pose your questions there, more specifically in terms of grade and specific school she would likely attend.
But I believe the process would be that you enroll in your home school, ask for an IEP meeting and ask during that meeting for her to be placed into the GTLD program. There’s definitely time to get that done before school starts in the fall. |
| What is the GTLD network and how do I join? |
|
what age is your child?
|
| also, does she currently have an IEP in Fairfax and what does it say in terms of special instruction/services? |
|
What behaviors in gen Ed would necessitate a placement change? Unless she’s already in a self contained class, I would expect them to start her in gen ed and see if that’s the LRE. If not, then they would start the process.
However, even without a placement change, you still want want to get the IEP process started as soon as you have a home school. |
| This is OP. She’s in 2nd grade and qualifies for AAP next year but we are interested in considering moving to Montgomery County specifically for the 2e program. Yes, she has an IEP. I’m not sure if the PP specifically knows about the 2e program or not? I’m guessing from your questions that you don’t have experience with it but definitely correct me if I’m wrong! |
DP. Can you really do this over the summer? |
| This is OP again. Is my daughter considered GTLD if she has autism, ADHD etc but not a learning disability per se? Not dyslexia, for example. |
How many hours of services does her IEP have now? Moco will want to see a high number -- 15 to 20 before considering for a special program that is considered to be a more restrictive placement. The rule is that they have to provide comparable services for 30 days while they do their own evaluation -- after that, could get more or fewer services. |
I think they'd be more likely to consider what used to be called the Asperger's program -- I can't remember its new name. |
Agree. It's now called the Connections program. |

Incorrect. That’s not the analysis for entrance into the GTLD program. “ Anonymous wrote: This is OP. | The question is what are the accommodations in her current IEP and what is the LRE that can meet those accommodations. |
