| How often are you in touch? |
| My adult child lives in the UK. I hear from her just about everyday via text or FaceTime. I see her in person four or five times a year; sometimes we go there and sometimes she comes home to visit. |
| It depends. If you've a kid studying abroad, you are more likely to have frequent contact then with one who is older, married and working. I guess twice a month contact and once a year visit would be normal. |
| My kids are out of state, single and working. One calls every other day, others once a week. Everyone responds almost daily on family tax group. |
| *One is at at a drivable distance so visits almost every month, others fly twice per year. We send tickets, can't say how often they would if they had to buy tickets. |
You fly or she flies over every 2.5-3 months per year? I don’t believe that. |
Overseas, not out of state is what op asked. |
How can your child drive from overseas? |
| My DD did a gap year in Europe between college and law school. We FaceTimed twice a week, and then also texted whenever. |
Some people are wealthy, dear. |
I am wealthy and still do not believe that you and your daughter do that. |
| When I lived abroad (about 10 years ago), my parents visited once a year and I visited family once every 1-2 years. We emailed a lot more regularly and did video calls every month or two. These days my family has a group chat that we all message every few days, so I would expect parents/adult kids to continue to use that the same way regardless of location. |
Money is not the only factor, dear. |
DP. Said by someone who hardly ever crosses the pond. Business people make 5 trips to Europe in a 3-month span (ask me how I know). The PP's response is leisurely in comparison |
| When I lived overseas, I visited parents every year and called every month. I bought my own tickets. It was before internet calling era. |
