Emoji-only responses

Anonymous
Hi, Jeff- I know it takes a lot to have something become a sticky at the top of a forum or to have something become a site-wide rule.
What do you think about emoji-only responses being banned? They feel lazy and unhelpful- sort of like the link-only posts which are not allowed.
I encountered both today and thought I would pose the question here. Thanks.

I think there are times when an emoji-only response is appropriate. That is generally when they are being used positively, which I acknowledge is fairly rare around here. Even so, I am not sure that I want to prohibit them.

I am sure you will get a bunch of emoji-only replies to this thread though.

Lol- I am completely expecting that. It’s ok- I have a sense of humor. Thanks for your thoughts.

An emoji is a response (as is a link). Not sure what you're objecting to. That it's not long enough or profound enough? That's true of many responses.

An emoji only response is no different from one that’s just a +1 which are all over.
