Hi! So we are a pretty middle of the road people, politically, liberal views on some issues and slightly right of middle on others. Whitman strikes us as being super super liberal. Do the middle of the road people exist at the school?
Thank you! |
| Nah. It has its fair share of nutjobs, too. |
| It's not what you think. There are a fair share of super super conservative people there too. They just don't make it really obvious all the time. |
We who? Your child might have different political opinions. |
|
It depends how you lean right, OP. Whitman is in a wealthy neighborhood. Rich people run the gamut, because a lot have "business-friendly" views on politics (weaker unions, more flexibility for employers, smaller government, fiscal responsibility, lower corporate taxes, etc), and this might make them vote conservative. But you won't find too many social/religious conservatives (no abortion, no gay marriage), even though I'm sure they exist!

| We literally right in the middle. We aren’t far right and we aren’t far left. |
You'll be find. |
| They are not middle of the road in SES, though. |
We know tons but they just are smart enough not to tell people like you. |
| no one cares, everyone is doing their own thing, striving for Harvard and ignoring everyone else. You'll be fine. |
| Thanks! Good to know. Actually I’d hate for my kids to go to Harvard. Blowhards! Rather a less prestigious school with happier kids. |
| I mean, except for the swastikas they're super liberal. |
| Thought those aren’t Whitman kids. Whitman kids rallied to support Jewish students after those were discovered. |
Tons going to Whitman? As I said, I'm sure there are some social conservatives of various nationalities and religions going to this school. But "tons"? No

What you believe makes no difference at all. Your kid will be attending the school.
If you live in bounds for Whitman you already interact with the families whose kids attend the school. On my block we actually have a couple of people who worked in the Trump administration and people on the other end of the spectrum and people on the middle (me being one of them). Those are the people who will be at Whitman - it's a public school that draws from a specific geographic area. |
