Severance (Ling Ma)

It was written in 2018 but depicts pandemic era in a spookingly correct way. Did you find it interesting?

Yes, I enjoyed it but I read it pre-pandemic. Would likely have appreciated it more if I'd read it during the pandemic! When I saw there was a show called Severance I thought it was an adaptation of the book, but no.

Read it earlier this year and liked it. If you're into this genre (dystopian themes with a virus), I also recommend Tender is the Flesh, Station Eleven, and The Last One.

I'm not particularly interested in virus based stories. I only read it because it was chosen by my book club but thank you for your recommendations.

I know. That's what I thought.

I really enjoyed it. I wish it were longer, the abrupt ending is off putting

I tried it post-pandemic, written up in a newspaper article I read talking about how weirdly prescient it was. Do not recommend- super depressing.

True, extremely depressing.

Well put. This goes for me too. I would recommend it.

Was it fiction? Kind of like how Station Eleven was about a pandemic and the aftermath?

Do you think there'll be a sequel?

No. After reading I went to Goodreads because readers answer questions and provide feedback on events. The abrupt ending is the firm end, and is eluded to at the beginning of the book. I don't want to take away from the book or ending. It's a quick read! Left me with thinking.

From a Goodreads user -
the first sentence of the prologue and the first sentence of the book proper, Ma rights "after the end came the beginning" and "The End begins before you are ever aware of it"
