Does anyone know if the cogat score % for 2nd grade is based on the nationwide or the local ranking? Just curious. |
Nationwide, which is why we see so many 99% here. Kids in north Dakota don't prep. |
I thought FCPS has used its own version of Cogat and the local ranking since 8 or 9 years ago. |
You used to get both national and local percentiles on the reports. There were maybe like 3-5 point difference between the two. So if you were 98% nationally, it was 94% locally. I only saw the national percentile this year.
As PP pointed out, FCPS uses their own version of the COGAT, so not sure how that national percentile could really be considered accurate given that they aren’t comparing apples to apples. |
Spoiler alert: It's the same test. |
Is that your theory or something you actually know? |
Op- it was confusing to me because initially the school sent out a note saying that for 2nd grade they will be posting local scores but on the actual score report, the local scores were blank. In past years there were national and local scores. |
Op- again.. So maybe when our scores are showing in the 99% it's really nationwide. County wide, it may be lower. In the past there was a fairly large difference between local and national %. |
With the new pool system, each school gets a local 10% score cutoff. That's how some schools had scores of 140 that were not in pool (which just shows how much prepping there really is). |
I’m curious how you guys know this. I also know it’s different but I found out from my kid who I prepped with books and told me the test was different and then getting myself in a pickle when I asked about it ![]() |
