Should homework be banned ?

Did you ever email a high school teacher and asked them to stop giving homework?

If they give 30 minutes of homework that is still 3.5 worth of homework a day..

I am a high school teacher and have received a few of these emails over the years, usually referencing an IEP or 504. My reply is always that I won’t count it if they don’t do it but it’s the mastery of material that is important.

Parents think homework is busy work and they know better than the teachers. I don’t care if kids don’t do formative work, but don’t come complain to me when they don’t do well on assessments because they have not practiced.

Please stop. I want my tax dollars to support schools that teach. I don’t mind, though, that they go to entitled people.

DC doesn’t have any IEP or 504, but just doesn’t like doing homework when she can do something else.

No. We need to go the opposite direction and restore it in ES and MS.

Because your DC doesn’t like homework, you want homework to be banned for my children and all FCPS children? What else does she/he not like and you want banned for all of us?

+1 How can anyone master anything without sufficient and mindful practice?

Homework in ES is not appropriate most of the time and is busy work. HW in highschool is needed for practice and mastery of concept. HW in MS is preparation and learning how to manage time

A small amount of homework helps develop habits.

And, some kids need the practice.
