Need to opt child out of MCAP

Anonymous
Maryland and MCPS have some nerve forcing kids to spend weeks testing again without even returning last year's results. It's insulting to students and teachers. Students should stage a walk out the day of the testing at their schools. It's a waste of time and resources for everyone.

It's Maryland, not MCPS.

They will have to miss at least two weeks - the week of initial testing and makeup testing. So there is less lost time if you just cooperate.

The results were mailed out. And you can request a copy if you didn't receive them.

I'm not sure why that is your basis for staging a walkout and protesting the tests in general, which help determine districtwide efficacy and not really individual achievement.

The results were not mailed out To everyone. No one at our school has received them.

+1
No one at our school got them either. I think they only released it for a limited number of grades. It's irresponsible and a waste of taxpayer money.

OP, I agree with you in theory. These tests are an incredible waste of students' time and energy. Unfortunately, there's no opt out process. It is better to take them on time because the school will force your kid to test all day if it comes down to.the last day.

It's all part of their decline of civilization narrative from more Faux news talking points.

Here’s another thought, your child can also answer a if it’s multiple choice or just right n/a if there is a written portion. Or number if there’s a number required honestly I don’t know how these work. That would mean they are willing participants, but if your child is young enough they’ll probably feel pressured to test.

So encourage your kid to sabotage the test and the results? You don't think you're teaching them moral corruption with that mindset?

Don't you have to pass the Algebra MCAP to graduate?

Their choice is evade the test for a couple of weeks or sabotage it. I mean neither of those sounds like a good option but at least they don’t have to evade the test.

Our school just said to have your child refuse. Ask your school. Ours will not take them.

At least have them stage it correctly if they walk out, they'll just have to sit for the test when they get back. The correct, successful way to opt out is to sit for the test and refuse to take it. Close the Chromebook and refuse. The staff fill out a form saying the student refused the test. parents can't opt them out or refuse for them. The students themselves have to sit for the timed test session and refuse to participate.
