Growing up in the 80s, I remember Sound of Music always being aired on television (NBC?) around Easter time. It was only when I became an adult that I learned it's viewed as a Christmas movie and "Favorite Things" is a Christmas song.
Does anyone else not remember it being aired around Christmas time and aired around Easter instead? Does anyone else not remember "Favorite Things" being played as a Christmas song in the 80s? |

I remember that too. I think they played it around Easter through some time in the late 90s honestly. That and the Ten Commandments movie from the 50s.
I think My Favorite Things got “turned into” a Christmas song at some point because she names a lot of “things” in the song and there are some references to winter and presents. It seems like it’s been a vaguely Christmassy song for awhile, but I definitely associate it more with the movie than as a Christmas song! But maybe if you’ve never seen The Sound of Music or know much about musicals/Broadway you think of it as a Christmas song. |
| I honestly didn't think of this as a seasonal movie as a kid. |
| I always thought of it as a Christmas movie. |
| I remember it playing every Easter |
+1 |
How old are you? |
| I thought it always played on TV around Thanksgiving. |
|
I never thought of it as a seasonal movie. I just loved it and watched it every time it came on. Now I could probably watch it any time I want and never do.

Same... I could watch Christopher Plummer any time of year. He's so devastatingly handsome in that movie. Especially the Laendler scene... sigh. |
I could not get enough as a kid, I'd tune in when it was announced but now I never play it. |
me too. |
OMG. That scenic is one of the best ever. |
| Easter! |
Same! It's a Thanksgiving movie at our house. |
