Infertility Support and Discussion
| I had an IUI a week ago and the RE wants me to start the prometrium suppositories until we know if I'm pregnant or not. I've seen a few postings about the mess factor -- white, goopy mess, someone said. Yuck! Do I need to wear a liner? Is it that bad? And bummer that it mocks pregnancy symptoms, too. Sounds like a great time. Any feedback/suggestions appreciated! |
| I did not have a white goopy mess with Prometrium. I had some discharge with Prometrium but nothing like with Endometrin, a different form of progesterone used in IVF cycles, which is what causes the big white goopy mess. I did not need a liner. The Prometrium made me a little bloated and I had pinkish discharge after sex, but that was pretty much it. Good luck! |
| Prometrium causes a little bit of a yellowish discharge, which comes from the coating on the capsule. I used thin pantiliners with the prometrium and they were just fine. The further you can get the pill up there, the less mess it seems. Endometrin is a lot messier and requires a bigger pad. |

Prometrium made me feel awful. Extremely tired. Nauseous. Dizzy. Foggy headed. Very Bloated. Wore a panty liner for the small amount of discharge.
They switched me to Crinone. Said some women have an allergic response to the specific manufacturer. Something about eggs, which I thought was strange since I'm not allergic to eggs. |
| Agree with PP -- hated the prometrium suppositories -- the mess was bad enough but the they really made me feel pregnant (way worse than the bravelle, lupron, and other drugs. But because of the constant "dripping out of me" I opted for the IM shots in the butt and i have to say -- i was much happier with the shots. All about personal preference I know, so just another opinion. |
I don't mind the Prometrium suppositories. I wear a panty liner but I don't have any side effects from the medication itself. I do tend to worry when some of it ends up in the toilet, but that's my anxiety problem, not anyone else's. It's just another piece of trying to get and stay pregnant, and I'm grateful to have the assistance, regardless of the mess. Good luck, OP.

I agree -this has been my experience. |
