To all the GFR haters (former, or soon to be former, parents and coaches), I sincerely wish you find the greener pastures you so desperately seek and I wish you have a much warmer welcome on your new teams than what you have given to the new players/coaches here. What goes around, comes around…

A lot to unpack here, but genuinely thankful for this post. Seems like it was a bad experience - with the club, other kids/parents, and maybe coaches, and I do sympathize with those who stuck it out. Objectively, yes, we all want girls to have a positive experience, so it's a nice thought that they ended the season with a positive.

Trying to remain objective though.....I'm not sure it's the best move to load up on ultra high level talent, play in the lowest division of a tournament, and just dominate every meaningful game. Not sure who that's benefitting. Couldn't there have been a better way to handle this? Could the 4 girls be absorbed by the second team at least for a tournament? No one's faulting you or any of the parents for wanting some brightness with this season, but I think a lot of the "haters" (as you call them) in this thread are wondering if there couldn't have been a different way.

No. This was the best way, if only to make you cry about it.

there you have it folks. Typical classless behavior but at least you'll get to cuddle up with your DDs medal at night to make yourself feel something

Better than cuddling up with the wine moms at your R(b)FC meetings. Not even VRSC coaches would go to those.

I'm still laughing at the AI-doctored team photos.

Better than the AI R(b)FC teams.

They altered the faces of children. HAHAHAHAHA! Fake teams are one thing - fraudulent money grabs, ego projects, we've seen that and will see more and more. But AI face swaps of children? Great Falls taking it to another level. Amazing.

No, that was just your chardonnay goggles looking at the screen. You gotta lay off the sauce girl.

Not many options left than to have guest players from higher teams/outside when you are the lowest team in an age group and both teams in the younger age group played in a different tournament. Yes, the guest players were better players, but show me any team that doesn’t add “better” guest players for tournaments. That is permissible.

Like OP of this topic said some kids were even brought in just for the final and played the entire game. I've heard of a lot stuff but that's a new one

The 2016 Green (C) team only has 4 or 5 players left due to a number of players dropping out mid-season. Basic math says that 2-3 players not on the Green team would need to be playing at all times.

Our daughter is on a higher 2016 GFR team. I think that the new GFR leadership has handled this situation reasonably well. Different players rotate to guest play with the Green team each week for NCSL games. Those often include 2017 players. I wouldn't describe them as ringers.

One of the parents sent a pic of the team to get posted on social media and it had been run through AI so it had distorted faces. Someone tried to turn it into a huge scandal (looking at you, wine moms). Just absolutely sillyness.

I assume the two outside ringers are playing on the first GFR team next year.

From what someone else posted it’s was 3 players from a top team of another club, 2 from GFR top team and, 2 from GFR 2nd team. One has to wonder that if they brought so many players why did they play in the lowest bracket…these top team players needed a trophy that bad?

Because that's the bracket the tournament put them in?

For what it's worth, the team that GFR Green played in the final (Arlington Blue) is in a higher division in NCSL (and, in fact, is playing GFR's 2016 B team this coming weekend). Other teams from Arlington Blue's NCSL division were in the Gold/Silver brackets for the Virginian.

So is the real crime here that GFR outmanipulated ARL to get their lowest team a medal?

Here for all the smoke!

no. the 2nd team wasn’t playing this wkend so many made other plans or were guest playing with non GFR teams in different tournaments. lowest team registered last minute and coach got girls who could play from that team on roster then needed more for whole weekend before guest playing registration closed. the only kid who played the whole final game was the 2nd team GK. not a ringer for sure! it’s low level u10 soccer ffs. let it rest.

Hilarious that this is the scandal people are clinging to thinking it will be the demise of GFR. Keep trying, RBFC clowns. You’ve got your own messes to deal with at this point. Like, when will you admit your ED is gone?

I can't remember a single time we've played GFR without easily indefinable guest players whether league games or in tournaments. Frustrating at times but that's just the way the club is. Guesting isn't illegal or against any rules as long as they aren't playing down an age group or on multiple teams in the same tournament. No club is innocent of guesting kids onto lower teams to win tho. Let's be real you people complaining are also at clubs that do the same thing just maybe not as often.

yeah, I could say the same about Loudoun and Arlington. I'm sure others, but those come to mind as the biggest culprits (on par to or equal to what I've seen at GFR)

GFR posted a photo of the winning team with their medals not realizing that the parent of one of the ringers had already posted the original pic on SM. The faces of all the ringers/guest players had been changed. When GFR found out they took down the photo and claimed that they ran it through Ai trying to get the girls to all smile or something and it changed their faces but no one was buying it since everyone's face was the same except the girls from outside the club. This while be weird and dumb raised a bunch of questions about what GFR was hiding in the first place. Seemed strange to change the faces of the kids from outside the club then claim in was an Ai thing when called out about it.

True but the OP that brought this up in the first place with a kid on the team mentioned that players were brought in for the final that hadn't played all tournament and played the entire game leaving the girls that are actually on the team with little to no playing time. Makes sense when you look at the scoring that they lost to Arl blue 4-3 in the group even with some ringers so when playing them again in the final they brought more 1st team players and won 8-2. That huge of a turnaround makes it pretty obvious they did exactly what the OP said. I've never heard of a club doing something like that. Pretty shameful if you ask me

Dude, my kid is in the photo. The team manager submitted it and his daughter and mine were probably the most distorted of them all. The coach looked 15 years younger. It was not a scandal, there is nothing to hide here. The team had guest players. Everyone knows that. No rules were broken. The kids had a fun weekend playing soccer and it's just a relief they're all too young to know this drama exists!!

Yes, it look like Arlington ran through the bracket 8-3, 4-0 until they got their well-deserved comeuppance.
