| Connecticut college or Kenyon for an undecided humanities student focused on English, political science or history? Are they similar, what would be pros and cons of each? |
| Kenyon |

No brainer, Kenyon.
First, English, political science and history are among Kenyon’s strengths. It’s arguably #1 of all LACs for English. Kenyon Review, all the famous authors it produces, etc Second, Kenyon attracts much stronger students. CC SAT range is 1180-1390 and ACT is 28-32. Kenyon ranges are 1380-1490 and 31-34. To some extent the schools aren’t even comparable |
| Is there a meaningful difference in cost? |

The Fiske Guide To Colleges gives each school the same academic rating & the same social rating, but the quality of life is better at Connecticut College--again, according to the Fiske Guide.
Some folks enjoy being close to the ocean. Close to Conn College is the US Coast Guard Academy. Often they attend each others social events. |
| CC only 38 pct male, which is low. Kenyon more typical at 45 |
Yes, but the US Coast guard Academy is very close to Conn College. |

In case it matters to you:
Kenyon has already said that they will still require the COVID vaccine (they required the bivalent booster for all students this year, even for those who had the old booster). ConnColl will most likely be removing their mandate soon. |
| Conn has a beautiful campus including a 500-acre arboretum that's very nice for clearing one's head or studying or holding special events, etc. Half of the dorms are awesome, and the other half pretty bad by comparison. Academics are strong. Service is big. |
| Kenyon seems like the much better school |
| They are so similar academically. Kenyon “ranks” higher and has slightly higher test scores, so posters erroneously assume that means better. I think it comes down to student body. Conn College is going to have a “cooler” party crowd, while Kenyon definitely attracts a quirkier, more strait laced student, who has no problem with being in the middle of nowhere Ohio. Also, every person I have worked with who went to Kenyon has had a weird combination of arrogant with a big chip on their shoulder. Granted, that’s just a handful of people, but to a person, they have all been like that. A student in my DD’s senior class in HS who is planning to attend is like that as well. It’s uncanny. |
| Kenyon. Please. |
