When did you first venture out with your baby? First go out without your baby?

When did you start going out (for walks, grocery shopping, to get coffee) with baby? When did you first go out sans baby?

Both probably in the first two weeks (baby with grandparents).

Day 3 we had doctors appts. Day 5 I remember going grocery shopping with Dh and accompanying him to errands.

I think 2 weeks until I went anywhere alone. It was to get my haircut and I remember telling the stylist.

8 weeks for anything beyond doctor appointments and walks, but it was Covid.

Day 5 or 7 we went to a burger joint with baby (first kid) day 4 we went to rasika (second kid) haha.
Both kids we went out for a drink sans baby between 1-1.5 weeks on the instance of my mom. They were short outings because I was nursing, but so amazing

This is OP and happy to read these responses. This is my third baby and he was two weeks on Thursday and grandparents are offering to watch him so we can go to dinner in the neighborhood. Obviously wouldn’t be out very long but didn’t know if it was too soon.

I sent for a beer with a colleague who flew in from Nepal when kid #1 was 8 days old. I took the kid with me and he had a nice nap on a patio, but the amount of strange/judgmental looks I got was unpleasant.

I can’t remember when I took kid#2 out but I did leave her for 2 nights for a business trip when she was 6 weeks old. I was a pro at pumping etc by then and she was very happy with dad.

We went out for a walk in town to get ice cream the day she came home. I (DH) took her out on a short errands trip about a week into it, but she slept the whole time. It was our first and I was lucky she didn't wake up and want to be fed since we were doing only BF at the time, but I was also pretty close to home in case that happened.

Hah I was 7 days postpartum and traipsing through Cox Farms when it was an unfortunate 80 degrees in October. It was horrible lol.

I took the dog for a walk with the baby the day after I got home from the hospital. We did not take our babies into congested public places until after the 6 month shots. We'd take the babies to an outdoor cafe though. Not grocery shopping on a weekend morning. I went out without the baby when I went back to work.

Third baby. I’m pretty sure it was 3 days postpartum that husband and I left the baby with grandparents (staying in our home) to do a quick preschool run. We brought her with us to pickup, which is always outdoors. Other families were sweet but seemed to think it was all too soon!

Same. But it was not COVID and we were recuperating for 40 days.

We both had multiple doc visits the first few weeks. I had a tough recovery so prob nothing super social til a month. We did a few neighborhood walks in that time and I went out for coffee with a friend end of week 2. Baby and as fine, I needed a nap after.

Like all things motherhood, you need to do what works for you and ignore any judgement. I came home on day 3 from the c-section and went and ran an errand with my husband while my mom watched the baby. I knew I needed to get out. I think a few days later we did grocery shopping all together. Then 2 weeks from when I gave birth I was gone most of the day between a cooking class with friends and a wedding I went to. I knew that I would need to feel like me so I booked stuff ahead of time. With baby #2 I went to a job interview 10 days after giving birth. Not ideal but also sort of thrilling.
