Does anyone remember Mash's ham butts? my mom insisted on one for Easter, wouldn't bake any other ham. It sounds like they sold to Smithfield in 2015.
Any other favorites? Thinking we will get a Costco Spiral ham. p.s. I thought about the misdelivered Ham thread (tho that thread is a Christmas classic and I did not want to awaken it early). |
| Mash’s hams? What’s the extra “S” for? Hahaha |
| One year, the mash's ham we bought was rotten. We never bought them after that. Many years later, my mom wrote out her ham recipe and the instructions go as follows: buy a whole ham -NOT Mash's!!... |

I remember them, used to get the slices. Never realized they were out of Landover. Apparently the sale of the company didn’t go well for the employees:

Was googling to find out more about what happened with Mash's and saw this tweet: Anyone our there remember the MASH'S Ham commercial? "What's the extra 'S' for? That's for salt, we throw that away." Funny. I didn't realize lower salt is what made it special.
I was in charge of buying one every year as late as 2013 or so, and it was still under the name Mash's. Saw this online -- MASH's and Esskay (SK) brand hams production was discontinued in January of 2015 by Smithfield. If there are any around they probably have been frozen. Smithfield brand is the same formulation. |
| I remember that commercial: "The extra "S" stands for salt, we throw that away!" Classic vintage Baltimore television commercial. Used to play all the time during the holiday season back in the day. |
| HoneyBaked ham. |
| OMG yes, those commercials. I don't think I ever actually had one though. |
|
wish they still made this brand of ham (mash's) the best ham i ever ate. my mom bought no other brand. Nothing ever stays the same when it's a great product, they always have to mess with it.
|
| That was definitely my favorite ham. I haven’t found anything comparable. |
| I WANT IT BACK!!! EVEN HAD A THERMOMETER!!!😡 |
| Me too!!! |
| WE lived in Towson, MD and my husband wouldn't eat any other brand. The lower salt content made it all the more attractive being allergic to d salt. |
| I haven't found a good ham since they went out. They had the best taste, best texture, and were the only ham we ever bought growing up and until they disappeared. Now to get a good ham or pork in general, one needs to go to Germany. |
| Honey Baked Ham. I still really miss the store that used to be in Bethesda. |
