I’ve been using and love my mom’s old coach purse from the 80s - just simple black leather, understated but well made. It’s starting to get a bit beat up so was looking to buy a new one and was on their website and everything just seems so tacky with the big branded Cs all over everything. Even their simple looking leather purses, the closest approximation to my old one, has a pretty big tacky looking brass C on it. Is coach just generally tacky now? I’m not really up on fashion so maybe it’s been this way for a while? Any recommendations for where I can get a simple classic looking small leather purse without totally breaking the bank? |
They have a ton of plain styles. This feels like a troll post.

+1, it’s impossible to be a functional adult who can’t find a plain leather handbag at almost any price point. |
Which bag are you looking at? |
I'll go with yes, but more to the point there's a cult around the vintage bags and people usually like one or the other, not both. If you want a new bag, no need to be brand loyal. |
The Coach outlet has bags with subtler branding (no big C's, etc). I still like Coach but tend to prefer the outlet styles. |
It’s fine. |
Google how to wash and refresh your bag. It's very easy, I promise, and for about $15 - the cost of leather conditioner that you should buy and use anyway - you bag will look great for years. I've done this with many, many Coach bags. |
I was just in Italy and bought a bag for 70E that very much reminds me of the old vintage coach bags. I know that doesn’t help OP but I find it irritating that in America they mostly just sell tacky crap now. In Italy it was so easy to find classic well made real leather bags! |
I just got an Ellie File crossbody. |
I agree - many of their styles are tacky now…Coach wouldn’t be my first choice. |
coach has always been tacky. brand of choice for weehawken ladies. |
I don't know what Weehawken means. I am European and all my friends are asking me to bring them Coach purses as presents. They are very unique in Europe. I am 47 and I always thought they are for older crowd, but unexpectedly ended up buying myself 2 purses when I was 45 and I love them. |
All heavily branded things have always been tacky. No one should pay to advertise a product. If its label is on the item, I don’t buy it. Only really low class people buy and carry these items. |
How old are you? |
