Has anyone gone from private to public...

and found the quality of education just as good? I'm thinking about making the jump next year, & want to know what schools to look into. Possibly moving, too, so may try to get in bounds for one of those schools.

Fairfax has amazing schools from A to Z. Your children will thrive. Move to Fairfax. You will be safe, happy, well educated and you will get in-state tuition for some of the best colleges in the country. Fairfax is a local gem that should not be ignored. It can be a tough commute into the city for work, but the quality of life far out weighs the burdensome commute.

Hope it all works out nicely for your family.

Is this serious? You are afraid that after spending years in pre-K and K at a private school your child is going to have a hard time adjusting to the differences between private and public?

If you are interested in the highest quality public schools in DC and you are willing to move, I am assuming you are talking about fall 2011 as you must have already committed to private school for next year. I would note what schools are thought of highly around here (just page back, there are many that keep coming up), both established and up and coming and also take into account the middle schools the elementary schools feed into. I would then go on tours in the fall of the schools you are interested in.

Obviously, or OP wouldn't have posted to this forum asking for advice about DC. (Fairfax booster please stick to your side of Potomac. Quality of life is subjective. )

OP, it really depends on what private you're coming from. For the time being, the JKLM public schools in wards 3 and 2 are arguably comparable to private schools.

Good luck.
