Two brothers, shared father, shared custody.
Anyone have a school not accept the preference for a half-sibling? Or because of shared custody? |
Siblings are siblings as far as DCPS is concerned. It doesn't matter if there are different fathers/mothers. |
This is correct, but may need to be submitted on the same lottery application. I don’t recall how you list siblings. A call to My School DC would give you that info quickly and accurately. |
Forget the “green-card wedding”, soon we’ll be seeing the “Janney Wedding”! |
They don't have to be! They just have to be entered as siblings when you do the lottery application -- that is, each individual application asks for siblings and their schools and you have to list them. School may ask you questions in a complicated scenario, but same father is not complicated. |
Each LEA has their own definition of sibling. Here is the DCPS definition of sibling: "Sibling: A child who has at least one parent or legal guardian in common with a current DCPS student and resides in the same household as the student. (5-E DCMR § 2199.2" From their Enrollment Policy Handbook: https://enrolldcps.dc.gov/sites/dcpsenrollment/files/page_content/attachments/SY23-24%20Enrollment%20and%20Lottery%20Handbook%20FINAL.pdf |
