DC is in a “situationship” - what does that mean?

Appears to be a romantic relationship. Been going on a few months now. What is this??

It’s just what kids these days call FWB. A relationship without bf/gf titles, often without exclusivity.

Yup. If they find themselves in the “situation” where they are both around, are horny, and don’t have better options, they go for it. But there are no strings attached and each are free to make other arrangements when the situation allows for it.

Friends with benefits type deal. They enjoy hanging out with each other and hooking up, but its not serious and won't become serious.

Somewhere between dating and “talking” but no official titles or commitments.

It’s all over tik tok. I think it is meant to be friends with benefits but if we are talking teenagers they may not be actually having sex, just making out and cuddling.

It could also just be texting, who knows with these kids, they love their trends lol

Yes all the above is correct. Works for a while no pressure. And then one of them catches feelings. And then the situationship becomes a relationship or the one without feelings runs away.

Hooking up

It's an ongoing "situation" between a casual one night stand type hookup and a relationship, typically comes before real "dating".

Agreed.

Also, do the kids still say “making out”? That’s definitely the term we used when I was growing up (GenX). My mom called it “necking” lol.

It can be anything. It can be a friends-with-benefits situation. Or a flirty friendship. Or the type of thing where you're not officially dating, but you don't want the person to be dating anyone other than you.

It means your kid is addicted to Tik Tok!

The kids still say making out but they typically just say get with (gw) or hooked up with (which can mean making out or sex or anything in between).
