Very interesting in light of the lawsuit.

It’s interesting there are more Black admits than Latino admits. Latinos are the largest minority in the US. Though I think if race neutral admissions starts, there will be a huge uptick in Asians still. At least half of the top 10% of DD’s class is Asian.

Bummer. I prefer that Ivies do not take Asian Americans so that Asian Americans go to public universities and raise the academic standards and reputations of affordable public universities. You know, like what Asian Americans did for CS in UMD.

Harvard should admit poor Whites.

They do. Poor whites generally don’t apply.

Poor white legacy with international and national academic awards, leadership, talented musician, started business, NMF, 4.0 11 APs etc. Applied REA deferred and then waitlisted.

Legacy parent is deceased.

Many of the strongest UMD CS students are not American.

I’m so sorry. If that is your kid, they sound awesome and will succeed wherever. No need for Harvard. I know a Coke Scholar legacy who applied REA, was deferred and then denied. The good thing is that Harvard seems to be moving away from legacy.

Since people are obsessed with racial demographics, according to the article:

Asians: 29.9
Black: 15.3
Latino: 11.3
Native American: 2
Hawaiian: .5

Total: 59%

Implication: whites are 41%

US racial demographics- tried to find current data and found this for 18-24 y/o as of 2021: https://datacenter.kidscount.org/data/tables/11207-young-adult-population-ages-18-to-24-by-race-and-ethnicity#detailed/1/any/false/2048/68,69,67,12,70,66,71,7983/21595,21596

Asians: 6%
Black: 14%
Latino: 23%
Native American: 1%
Hawaiian: .5%
White: 53%

Interesting. Technically speaking, whites are visibly underrepresented, as are Latinos, if the goal is to have Harvard's student body mirror national demographics. We could add an overlay of faith but that gets tricker so let's leave it aside for now. We all know Harvard doesn't admit on merit, so it's not really clear what they're looking for in the ideal student body as they also don't have proportional racial demographic mix either.

Often there’s a significant international percentage as well.

Read the article; 14.5%, so whites 27% or so.

I mean my kid was admitted to Harvard on merit! Not everyone there might be like my kid, but there are several of them. What surprised us was just how smart most of them are, especially in Math. It feels like they went to these really good schools where they got a great education. Now if you mean that merit = GPA and grades only, yeah Harvard does not admit based on just those factors. You need a lot more.

The sound of white people crying over selective college admissions is amazing.

For all you Asian parents who think whites are your ally, this is how it starts. Who do you think is in their crosshairs for being overrepresented?
