Question re: siblings of GT center students

Anonymous
If your child is in a FCPS GT center, can siblings attend the center school (non-GT) or do they have to stay at your base school?

They are supposed to stay at the base school. You can talk to the principal of the GTC to ask if there is room and the principal does have discretion, but I wouldn't count on it. If your based school has LLIV, this is one reason to consider it.

You can try to do a transfer. If there is room and you have an issue, like child care, then it may be allowed. It doesn't hurt to ask.

From my understanding, a child in the GT Center is not reason for a sibling to be transferred, and requests for that reason would be denied.

I'm 5:33. No, transfers are not technically allowed for that reason. But if having children in two different locations creates a child care hardship, that is a reason to allow a transfer. Also, principals have a lot of discretion. It really does not hurt to ask.
