| We are in talks with multiple kitchen remodelers and their quotes/designs are almost kind of similar. We are wondering what are things you a negotiate on and what are things best left alone? What kind of details would you expect on a contract that can be negotiated in good faith? Not looking for making a bargain out of quote but I am sure they already know most people will negotiate and up price their quote? |
| I would ask them for a detailed quote, no just flat numbers and ask is this their best price? |
| If the bids are all the same, start calling references to confirm quality and timeliness. Stuff costs what they cost. Spend your time nailing down the things you care about and get those in the contract so there's no confusion later on. |
| Completion date. |
| I think when you initiate this that you will find they will be too busy to take on your work. |

We did a small kitchen makeover with lowes (not a complete gut) and I was able to price match appliances and use some promotions they had to get a very good discount.
The biggest way to save is by doing the demo yourself if you can, as well as some of the finishing touches. With private contractors, they have their pick of work right now. Ask them to clarify any items on the invoice, but the price is the price. If they have a line for fixtures, that might be where you could save money if you provide your own. |
Good luck with that. |
