We're going to be in the MD/Wheaton area for the summer (beginning of June-end of October) and are trying to find a care option for between 20-30 hours/week for our 2.5 year old. I'm seeing a lot of schools/daycares with fall enrollment, which isn't going to work for us, and trying to figure out if it's possible to find either a place that offers rolling enrollment and might have availability or a summer program that would at least cover us for a few months. Most of the summer stuff I'm seeing seems to start at 3 yrs old. Ideally we'd find a place that offers more limited hours or part-time but at this point I'm realistic that we might just need to pay for full-time coverage as well.
If you're aware of any schools that offer 1) rolling enrollment, 2) part-time options, or 3) summer programs for a 2.5 yr old in the Silver Spring/Kensington/Wheaton/Rockville area, please share! |
I think you’re going to need a nanny. I’ve never heard of this kind of temporary arrangement for daycares. People around here get on waitlists for daycare as soon as they’re pregnant. And even in DC proper where PreK starts at 3, that doesn’t start until late august…so people aren’t giving up their spots until then (and even then, there’s a waitlist). |
I would call different daycares e.g.
MCCA Kensington Forest Glen MCCA Arcola Bright Eyes Early Learning Center Kid's House Bilingual Daycare Karasik And see what schedule options they offer. Our daycare is not in Silver Spring but they do offer lots of different schedule options and rolling enrollment assuming they have space. I would really be surprised if no daycare in Silver Spring offered this or had space available for a 2.5 year old. |
I don’t know but maybe Silver Spring Day School? They always seem to have a lot of flexible enrollment options. |
Our daycare has separate summer sign-ups (not sure if we have a lot of people who are teachers or have more flexible summer schedules and pull the kids out for the summer months). Might be worth a call to see if you can slide into a spot for the summer months with the understanding you'd probably need to find something different come labor day. |
Check out Kidsco Jr if you are willing to go up to Rockville |
Check out the Barrie School in Silver Spring, they used to have a toddler summer program for 2 year olds that was run by the lower school, not the camp.
I’m not sure if it’s only for students enrolled in school during the school year, but worth checking it out People |
Try SAES. |
Try Silver Spring Learning Center |
Try Temple Emanuel in Kensington. Might have to be full-time but they definitely have summer care for this age. |
Karasik has a long waitlist. |
