I attended the MCJEA - Montgomery County Jewish Educators Alliance tonight and was really impressed with this group. It seems it was started by this elementary principal and was due to the many antisemitic events in MCPS and Montgomery County. They have had two meetings since forming in January and have given testimony at the Board, met with MCPS leadership including Deputy, met with Glass and Friedson (who was at the meeting), talked with ADL and JCRC, and serve as a resource to MCPS and schools, They have 4 purposes, Address Antisemitism and its impact on the Montgomery County Community, Serve as a resource for MCPS to ensure materials that are accurate and age appropriate, Kibbitz & Kvetch with Each Other, and create awareness of Jewish culture.

They also are planning a Holocaust Remembrance Event on April 17th at 7 pm at Flora Singer. Picked Flora Singer since it seems she was a Holocaust Survivor. Who knew! You can register for the event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mcjea-national-holocaust-remembrance-event-tickets-579188066097

Discussion tonight centered on what MCPS has done and not done to address antisemitism, Dr. McKnight's Town Halls, and the need for Jewish and Holocaust education. People didn't hold back with concerns and it was a very open conversation. Also, the concern that antiracism is always addressed but antisemitism is not with the same urgency.

Found the whole meeting to be refreshing with a mix of MCPS educators and parents speaking reality and honestly. Chance for everyone to speak up which doesn't typically happen too!
