Feel so awkward wearing mask to work but need to

Anonymous
My son has a heart condition, and it's been recommended that I mask because of the nature of my job. I am with the public, and not a lot of ventilation. There's one other coworker who wears a mask. I'm not sure what I am asking here just wanted to post. It's probably awkward for my coworkers because I smile a lot, and now they can't see my reactions as much. My manager said something about it today, like I didn't seem like myself.

People smile with their eyes, not just mouths: don't worry about it.

This person's manager cared enough to mention it, PP. Smiling is contagious. Maybe they felt it helped bring the team together.

Yeah, nothing makes somebody smile like feeling they have to choose between their job and their kid's health, PP
But likely OP was just reading too much into her boss's comment. I wouldn't worry about it.

I work in an office where everyone has their own office with walls, the hallways are huge, everything is generally spacious, and no one has any meaningful contact with the public. And a fair number of people wear masks. No one cares.

It’s ok, I for one don’t judge as long as you don’t expect me to wear one

Keep wearing it

We wear masks at work often. Everyone wears one when they go to the copy room because one of the guys who works there had cancer last summer and his immunity is low. Everyone on one floor wore one when someone on that floor was pregnant. At our company people just sometimes wear masks. We can still tell by tone if someone is smiling as they talk plus can see their eyes.

Your co-workers sound very considerate. I wish everyone was like that!

OP - Hugs to you. I get it. We just have to do what's right for our families.

Of course you should wear a mask under the circumstances, OP. Anyone who would expect otherwise or criticize you for it (not that it's any of their business) is an a__.

+1

I don’t wear a mask at work but completely understand and empathize with those who do and I will sometimes mask around them as a courtesy

I wear a mask on public transit because in pre-mask days, I’d often pick up colds. Masking has greatly reduced that for me.

I'm still masking it and I can see people smile with your eyes masked, it's ok OP. Keep wearing your mask and protecting your family.

I still mask at my office. It’s an individual choice. You do what works for you and your family, OP.
