Jazz up a utility/laundry room?

Anonymous
Our basement laundry room is finished in the sense that is has flooring and drywall, but it has the furnace, hot water heater, and utility sink in it. I’m reorganizing it and trying to decide if I should paint it, or something? What can I do to make it a little more fun? I can’t hide the furnace, the ducts or the pipes.

Paint will do wonders. And possibly one of those peel-off murals - something large format, not words. Like this:

Make sure the lighting is bright. Either a nice fixture, or one of those petal garage lights (not pretty, but bright).

Do you have space for a cabinet?

I’ve been looking into this as well. Is the floor unfinished? You could paint it a fun color and use a tile stencil to give it a tiled look, then paint the walls in a complementary, but somewhat neutral, color. I’ve been thinking of installing board and batten on the walls about 3/5 of the way up with a fun wallpaper on top.

There’s no room for a cabinet, and I have wire shelves and hooks everywhere.

I’m thinking maybe a cute stamp like a sudsy bucket or something and I could do that all over like a faux wallpaper?

How about a sign that says "Laundry" or "breathe" if this is a room you regularly forget to breathe in.

I don’t think a cute laundry stamp would be as bad as words, thank you for being such a cont about it though. Maybe I’ll just do a diamond or something. Or a circle thing.
