Going on a 15 hour flight with my 3.5 year old in a few months. Was thinking of purchasing something like this:
https://www.flyawaydesigns.com/products/flyaway-kids-bed Has anyone used something like this on a flight? How did it go? I also cannot find any information online on the airline's website regarding whether or not it is permitted. |

We used this for our flight to korea.
https://www.amazon.com/JefDiee-Inflatable-Airplane-Adjustable-Essentials/dp/B09DSJ2B8J It was great for my kids who were tiny at the time. We couldn't use it during takeoff and landing (whenever you had to have bags stowed) but other than that it was great. This didn't actually go on the seat, though, so I don't know if the airline would allow you to use the one you found. I'm guessing it might be an issue since booster seats aren't allowed, and you could def consider this a booster |
| These are not allowed and they are not safe. |
| Bring a car seat. |
| Little kids feet would be kicking the persons chair in front of him. That’s a big NO! |
| Frequent traveler here--we've never used or seen this. Our solution is to try and get the kid + at least one parent into business class so the seat is lie-flat, and we don't take that many flights where she'd need to sleep anyway. If that's not feasible we put a coat on top of our lap and she sleeps with her head on our lap. I wouldn't think that this inflatable bed thing would fit comfortably in an economy class seat. |
| Have your child sit up like it normal person or have them in a car seat. They can handle 15 hours of sitting facing forward. |
Yup. 3.5 yo can sleep in a car seat, and it's the safest option for the plane anyway. |
| Family in Asia so we did plenty of long haul travel with babies. Always buy a seat for your infant and bring a car seat that's FAA approved - once they're a bit bigger you can also use the CARES harness. |
The first one looks unworkable to me but I just flew with my 2.5 year old and I have my eye on this one now. I feel like she could curl up much better with this on the floor. |
Yes, in the sense that they won’t die from it. |
| Not op. We’d used both regular car seat and the inflatable cube bed. When my toddler was on car seat he wouldn’t stop kicking the front seat. When we used the cubes (2 kids with 2 seats, 1 adult had 1 seat, and we used 2 cubes), 2kids were able to lie down to sleep (1 across 2 seats then another kid on 2 cubes, kind of tight space because front seat passengers would incline theirs seats for sleep too, but was still doable). If was before pandemic so unsure if anything’s been changed. |
| Email the airline. They may have a global policy or it may depend on the route or size plane. Generally EU carriers don’t permit the use of these (unsure where you are headed). |
Not sure if they are allowed by all airlines, but they definitely aren’t safe. If you are in a seat, you need to be wearing a seat belt, no matter the age. Unexpected turbulence is a thing, and I’ve seen unsecured babies and small children hit their heads multiple times on flights. - frequent traveler |
I'd also think there would be concerns about them blocking the aisle in case of emergency exit. |
