Do schools treat you in any way differently if you are receiving financial aid?
Do the teachers know? Does the staff know? Does the head of school "principals" know? Any different treatment. Note: this is in reference to already accepted. |
| I don't know, but I do know we are not treated differently from others for being full pay donors. Don't believe everything you read on here. |
Been paying full for years but thinking of requesting aid (for real reasons) and don't want to be treated differently. |
| A handful of people would know (FA office ofc, possibly people in other admin/business roles, especially if they involve money, maybe directors or HoS type positions). Teachers will not know or care. No one will treat you differently. |
If there is a disciplinary issue, the financial aid kid and the VIP/donor kid are not going to be treated the same |
What do you mean? |
PP is claiming that a VIP kid would get more lenience. Which may be true at some schools (but not all), but the FA kid is not going to be treated worse than a full-pay non-VIP kid, which are the bulk of students. |

As an FA family, I am guessing that most of the administrators know. It does not trouble me one bit. I've never thought/felt the teachers know. Also, I would not care if they knew.
I do wish that we had more money so I could pay the school a bit more. I truly wish that. We love our school. My child loves the school. |
Okay that makes sense to me. A Supreme Court Justice's/Beyonce/Senator's child/niece/nephew vs just plain rich or wealthy. |
That’s about the VIP/donor child being treated better than *everyone*, not the child on FA being treated worse than everyone. |
Has it ever been mentioned to you by ANYONE? |
what about just wealthy (like a Dr or Lawyer's child) vs financial aid child? |
No difference in treatment. |

OP, you seem really concerned that someone might be aware of your FA status. This says more about how *you* view a perceived financial “failing” than anyone at your school. The school does not care. Please, whatever you do, do not let your child get the impression that you feel inferior about your money situation, because they *will* internalize that and start to feel bad about themselves compared to other students they view as being “better” because they have more money.
The school does. not. care. |
No. How could they mention? What kind of scenario do you have in your mind? The only time FA situation comes up, it is with the director of financial aid in January. We apply, and she replies. And that's about it as much as FA conversation. How do I guess that rest of the administrators know? It is actually a very weak guess. When we apply for FA, I am guessing the administrators maybe thinking about each child's academic potential and maybe receiving feedback from school reports etc. |
