My family is driving through Richmond over spring break. My DC is interested in VCU. We’re not familiar with Richmond. Any suggestions on where to go? Any casual restaurants in the area where students hang out? Appreciate it! |
Lots of eateries along the strip near VCU. |
Don't miss the Carytown district which is close to VCU. |
To be around students, maybe Village Cafe or Christian’s Pizza on N. Harrison. And then there’s are tons of restaurants all along W. Main Street, heading away from downtown. Richmond has a great food scene. So many options in so many different areas, but in the vicinity of VCU, stick between W. Main and W. Broad. You could explore the Fan and find great little corner places—Kuba Kuba, Garnett’s, Ipanema, Edo’s Squid (dinner only). |
Thanks for this! |
Not that close to VCU, but there is Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom. |
An amazing restaurant very close to VCU - Henley on Grace. |
Cobra Cabana. Divey bar restaurant. Popular with students & neighborhood. Great food. Perfect French fries. Vegetarian & vegan options too. Creepy bathroom decorated with child clown paintings. Walking distance from siegal center. |
Not worth it. Covid hit it hard. Very few restaurants left and fewer retail, if any. |
When on campus take a right on Cary St towards the fan. Walk Cary St till u get to Arthur Ashe and then walk Main St back to campus. You will see a side of Richmond most people never talk about. This walk will show you where students live off campus and the amazing food scene. Just don’t walk Broad St cause you will only she the part haters love to hate. |
If you want to see amazing cherry blossoms, visit the Hollywood Cemetery. Rivals the Washington mall and a nice walk from campus |
When does housing open? Website has different dates- one says April 4 and one says April 5. Anyone know? |
