I just had my 8 week Ultra Sound and the heartbeat was perfect: 146, but the baby was measuring closer to 7 wks, 2 days sizewise. We know the exact conception, we did IUI with a fertility clinic. We had a 6 week ultrasound were the heartbeat was right on target and the size was too. The OB/GYN said he didn't know why the baby is smaller than they expected, but was happy that the heart was perfect. Has anyone else experienced the baby measuring smaller at their 8 week ultrasound than it should? It worries me. I should say that the 6 week was at the fertility clinic and the 8 week was at the OB/GYN. I've heard that OBs aren't always at good at ultrasound as the clinics are and the equipment is often not as good. Has anyone else heard this too? |
the standard for Ultrasound is that babies age can be incorrect by one week in the first trimester, two weeks in the second and three weeks in the third. Also it's important that they are growing as opposed to the exact measurement. However, when they measure smaller than expected that's when they will need a work up for growth.from the measurements you give baby measures well within one week.
If you are concerned ask your OB to refer you to a perinatologist for the Ultrasounds. |
From my first ultrasound, my daughter always measured small - around 25%. I had her at 39 weeks and she weighted 7 lbs 6 oz. Go figure!
I am now pregrant with my second. This time its a boy. I am terrified because he keeps mesuring big - 71%. I can only weight and see how much better the measurement techniques have gotten in the past 3 years. |
I have heard that the equipment at an OBs office isn't going to be as high quality as the equipment at a specialist's office. It really depends. Congratulations on the perfect heartbeat! |
I have to second what the PP said. OBs are not as equipped and aren't as skilled as they are at a fertility clinic. Heartbeat is the more important gauge. Congrats! |
