| Does anyone have a child at the Kennedy Kreiger HS? Their website seems confusing and I don’t see a whole lot of information. |
| I’m at a lower KKS school so haven’t yet started to think about high school. The website isn’t great but it does list a contact person. I’d give them a call or email. Everyone we have encounter at KKS has been super helpful |
| OP here: specifically looking for information in Powdermill Campus. |
Definitely contact them. They are fantastic there. I don’t know if I can share the name of the intake person here but look on the MANSEF site and it gives her email. It’s a very tiny school but we’ve been very happy. |
Are you willing to share a bit about your kids profile? Is it diploma track? |
Right now, yes. But we are in the younger grades so that may change. Hard to know. They do not have a diploma program at the campus - only certificate. So once you are done with 8th diploma kids get placed other places. It’s very very small (like 60 kids total) but we really like that aspect. Everyone there has been lovely. We really like the service providers too. They have lots of fun activists for the kids and parents are invited and involved in all of them. I encourage you to reach out for a tour. They are very honest and open about the school and profiles of children placed there. |
Thought Powdermill only went through 8th grade (same for Fairmount). |
| DS went to KKI Greenspring and graduated with a HS diploma in 2019. He is HFA (previously Asperger's) and had massive emotional issues when he started there. They did an amazing, astonishing, life-altering job at dealing with a pretty darned difficult emotional situation. They tried their hardest academically and were very supportive of enrichment that he did during the school day to go beyond what they could offer. We adore KKI after years of H--- in DCPS and truly credit them with where our son is today. He's in college and lives in the dorm and while he's still very autistic he functions and goes to class and feeds himself and actually speaks to a few classmates/professors. He seems happy. KKI will be in my will if I ever get done needing to leave all of any money I actually don't even have to my kids! They are THAT good!! And their website is not helpful at all so give them a call. |
Thank you. That is SO helpful (and hopeful) |
