My brother has special needs and we are in the process of looking for a new home.
Are the disability services in one city/county better than in another in the DC area? We are currently in Arlington, but are thinking of moving to City of Falls Church, Falls Church, or Montgomery County. Does anyone have any comments, recommendations or first hand experience? Any comments are much appreciated. Thanks. Erika. |
MoCo is really good, in my opinion. You don't state your brother's age, however. This would help. |
My brother is 20 years old and will be done with school by the time he is 22 years old. |
Montgomery County is the best option. Since Maryland is a democratic state, it devotes much more money to special needs programs in school systems. My husband and I used to live in Virginia, and we count ourselves as lucky that we moved to Montgomery County, because my our son has an autism spectrum disorder, and his learning options here are endless. |
I agree, Montgomery County is the best of those three choices. My four year old has an autism spectrum disorder and live in PG County. Fortunately, we have a top-notch attorney and are seeking funding for private schools in Montgomery County as PG has none except the substandard public school. From all my research as John Hopkin's Kennedy Krieger Institute, Howard County is the best followed by Montgomery County. You should also look at joining the ARC of Montgomery County as they are a wealth of information.
Hope this helps! |
