Is there more information available for the DIBELS and Math inventory test results that were posted a couple weeks ago? I find it INSANE that APS doesn't provide detailed guidance on how to understand these...I can't imagine even the majority of APS parents find this useful in understanding where there students are, and if they need help or are progressing. Am I missing something? |
We got more detailed versions of the reports from our kids' teachers. I don't know why they don't post the detailed versions in the first place. |
My kid came home with a paper with details of the DIBELs scores, but noting for the MI. |
We got a one page report for the Math Inventory. It didn't have much more on it, but it had the beginning of the year score, the middle of the year score, and the scale that the scores are measured on by grade. |
What advantage does helping the parents understand have for APS? I’m certain if kid is behind they reach out. If your kid average to amazing, the best outcome is you ignore the results and let them teach how they teach. There’s so little differentiation I really wouldn’t worry. |
I'm sorry - are you saying parents don't need to know how their kids are doing in school? Doesn't APS want parents to partner? Shouldn't I know if my child is behind in reading or math so I can help them? Why on EARTH would APS NOT want to provide parents with information about how students are performing!? |
APS only cares about bringing the bottom up to the middle. That is it. If your kid is already at the middle, they will do nothing to bring them up to the top. If your kid is already at the top, they will ask that your child assist in bringing the bottom kids up. |
My kids’ teachers reviews these at the recent conferences |
Given the new worthless report cards, these tests are more important than ever and we need more information. |
You would think but it doesn’t always happen. |
ha haaa ha ha ha haaaa haaaaa Omg, I can't breathe. I'm certain...they reach out. Brewha haaaaa ha ha omg omg omg inhale. In APS. Ha! so lucky this world view. |
I don't get it. Why wouldn't APS tell us the results and/or if our child is behind and needs extra help? We're house hunting and heard APS schools were great but this is concerning. |
What grades are your kids in? If I am being honest - I am an APS parent. Middle and high school are great. I have found elementary education to be abysmal. I don’t know if it’s just my kid or it really is as bad as it seems, but I would ask hard questions of the principals at the schools you’re considering to see if they are a fit. Where are you moving from? |
1. No, they don’t necessarily reach out if a kid is behind. They certainly don’t suggest an evaluation for a learning disability. 2. Regardless of what APS will or won’t do, parents deserve to know how their own children are doing. In fact, they deserve to know more than anyone else. They also might want to work with their kid at home, or push for help at school. |
My kid was behind and I absolutely knew about it. It was also obvious from their scores (all in the low or below grade levels). Kid was put in intervention. Now kid is at or above grade level.
I reviewed the tests with our teachers during P-T conferences. If you had questions, that would have been a great place to start. Since you missed that, I’d start with asking your teacher or principal for more information about the tests. Or I guess you could just go nuclear on an anonymous website, but that won’t actually help your kid. |
