I am attending a conference in Montreal in early July. We are planning to stay and make it our family vacation. We plan to spend a few days in Quebec too. I have not been to Montreal since I was a kid. We usually follow Rick Steve’s as our go to but he doesn’t do Canada. Has anyone been more recently and what are the things you recommend we see in Montreal and Quebec? Any other day trips/side trips. We will be there a total of 14 days. Thanks! |
Read the countless threads on Montreal and Quebec that highlight what to do as well as what day trips and additional destinations you can add, and then come back with specific questions.
And post a recap of your trip afterwards. |
That will be lovely. Parc Mont Real will be great to visit. Keep in mind that it may be Canada Day and/or the Montreal Jazz Fest while you are there. You may wish to attend related events or else plan around that. |
It’s more French than France |
Try this.
http://www.go-montreal.com/attraction_events_jul.htm I go to the Jazz fest every year if I can and if the weekend works out, also catch the fireworks festival in Montreal. Lots of threads lately. |
We enjoyed our last summer’s trip to Montreal and Quebec City, but I have to tell you 14 days seems way too long. We did 4 days in Montreal and a day trip to QC. I guess we could’ve done an overnight in QC, but otherwise it felt like the right amount of time. |
I recently asked how many days and 4 was the general response. Some only did two days. 14 seems lengthy for what there is to explore apparently. |
I've never been to Montreal, but I love Quebec City! Ride the ferry and funicular, walk around Old Town, and try as many macarons as you can. |
If your family is outdoorsy, spend a couple of days at Mont Tremblant (an hour from Mtl in the mountains). It's beautiful and awesome. |
I used to live in Montreal and can easily spend a week when I return especially in the summer. There’s a festival going on every week and so many good restaurants.
I would hike up Mont Royal a few times for a view in the morning and night, on different days. Have a nice brunch at Beautys or smoked meat sandwich at Schwartz’s. if you are there on a Sunday, hang out with the people drumming and dancing in the afternoon. Walk along St Denis or St Laurent and have a coffee, see unique shops. Old Montreal, the Port. Rent a Segway to explore the Port if you’re into that. There will be street performers around. Eat at Gibbys if you like steak and seafood. See a Cirque de Soleil show. Go to the Jazz fest, shows start as early as noon on the weekends and mid afternoon Monday to Friday. All the outdoor concerts are free. Buy some food and beer or wine at the festival and enjoy. It’s not just jazz but blues, world music, folk, even rock - concerts are concurrent in the evening so you’ll find something you like. Go everyday if you’re a music lover. Visit Parc Drapeau and La Ronde amusement park on a weekend day when International fireworks festival is being held and see the fireworks at night. If you like seeing grand old Victorian houses, rent a city bike and visit Westmount or Outremont. And the usual more touristy attractions Musee be Beaux Arts, Biodome. |
“Have ‘a’ coffee.” LOL. |
