Salary differential

Curious what the salary differential is between you, your boss, and your second-in-command! Please indicate type of organization for context. My mature startup of about 200 employees is pretty flat - my boss who is also the majority owner forgoes salary entirely and my second makes ~15% less than me.

20% per level is pretty standard. Until you get to the SVP/EVP level and then it’s a massive jump

I have no way of determining my boss’s compensation. I know for the people under me. I don’t really have a second in command but the most senior of my directs makes about 15% less.

At my level, the jumps are huge. Like more than double if I dropped a level and probably more than double if I jumped up a rung. Also my level is where variable comp starts to be substantial

Professional services. I am a senior individual contributor and make about the same as my boss, who moved into management from a lower level than I am currently at. Her boss makes about twice as much as us.

Yeah. That’s where I am and the jumps are massive both down and up, like 3 times minimum in both my current and last org.

I make more than my boss.

Federal employee. She came in as a manager from an NGO so she started at the bottom of the 15 ladder and I'm near the top of the 14 ladder. In a few years she'll outearn me since I'll max out on steps.

I don't manage anyone, so no answer for the second part of the question.

Another Fed, but my boss is an SES so makes 13% more than I do. I have two deputies; one makes exactly the same as I do (hello, pay scale cap!) and the other was hired a year ago and makes 16% less, but she'll catch up to me eventually.

Boss is first in command. Not really sure, but I’m guessing about $5m.

My boss is the SVP and makes two times what I do.

This. I’m an SVP and I make double my highest paid employee. My COO easily makes double me.

As a fed, I make 30% more than my direct reports, and my boss makes 15% more than me (15 compression). The next level above are SES.

Same for me. My boss, SVP, makes about 2.5 times what I do.
