What classes did you guys take as FTM? anything you recommend or would suggest NOT doing?
I've seen CPR, birthing, lactation, child care/parenting...etc. |

I took none. I had never taken care of a baby before. DH took none. He'd never taken care of a baby before, although he'd held a few.
We hired a night nanny for 10 weeks. Worth every penny. She showed us how to do everything from putting the baby on a schedule to changing them to bathing, to feeding to burping to swaddling to soothing to changing clothes to carrying them and a diaper bag up and down flights of stairs, etc. |

A birthing class will have the minimal childcare that you/your husband need - how to hold the baby, how to change a diaper, etc.
You don't need a lactation class before you hav the baby. Get the lactation consultant into your hospital room STAT and have one ready to come to your house the day of or the day after you come home. |

Not a full time mom..taking classes on breastfeeding and pumping, preparing for labor, financial planning for a baby and basic baby care for now.
Will get lactation consultant if needed after birth. |
| Didn’t take any classes for the baby; just figured it out as we went along. However, I have to take a CPR/first aid course every couple years for my job, and I think that’s important for everybody to know in an emergency. Most CPR/first aid classes include a portion on infants, like resuscitation and treatment for choking. They are skills I hope I’ll never use, but I’d never forgive myself if my child died and I could have prevented it. |

I took a breastfeeding class from The Breastfeeding Center, which I found really helpful. I also took a baby care basics class and an infant first aid class with my husband—I don’t remember who they were through, but I appreciated both. Could I have successfully managed my newborn without them? Sure, but they gave me more confidence and helped my husband and me get on the same page. Plus, we had all the time in the world back then, so why not?
With my first baby, I took Itsy Bitsy Yoga, with my second, I took Infant Massage, and with my third, I did mom and baby postpartum yoga—I loved all three. |
| I did the virtual classes on tinyhood.com. I found it helpful and was nice thing to do with my husband. We've rewatched lessons at times including in the hospital |
| The only class I took was from the local animal shelter and it was how to introduce a baby into a house with existing dogs. Best class and one that I recommend to everyone. |

Infant CPR and Bradley (wanted a medication-free birth) before birth, had a lactation consultant come to the house after. That's it.
Had a refresher Bradley class before DC #2. |
| I took many classes in my first but somehow I never revisit those notes or remembered much from classes. I find a group of people having kids around the same time much easier so we can exchange ideas, ask questions etc. |
