We have at least 10 original 100-year-old wood doors with hardware in our home. We’d like to get the doors dipped to remove all the layers of paint. Has anyone done this and do you have recommendations for a place that does it? How much did it cost you per door? Also, I’m wondering what kind of wood is under all that paint. Is there a type they used a lot in old colonials 100 years ago?

| Odds are good it's a hardwood - oak or maybe chestnut. |

There are services you can take them to. I know it's a common treatment for radiators.
In my experience though even old wood is rarely worth stripping. Paint grade was paint grade even 100 years ago. |
| There is a place called ChemStrip out in PG county. |

Easy to do yourself. I did it my moms house.
I just had two sawhorses laid door over it and put the stuff you buy Home Depot on and let it soak. We had it done a few hours and door back up |
A messy pain in the backside for one door. 10? No thanks! |
| I would do one and see what it looks like. |
| Thanks, all. Any idea what it costs per door? |
