Are they still thinking they are 17 year old in high school?
Read a TikTok video of many now 20-22 year old saying that they are stuck at 17, and can’t get over that fact they were cheated off their high school years |

Mine graduated in 2020 and no. Their school year always ended in May so there were only 8 weeks left in the school year when things shut down. Prom was cancelled and graduation was held in batches that August. They seem fine to me. 2020 kids were also in a good spot to take a gap year without missing out on much if they desired to.
I think it was harder on 2021 kids. |
Same here, mom of 2020 graduate. By the time things shut down, my daughter already knew where she'd be going to college and, I think, mentally checked out of HS anyway. She really enjoyed her senioritis because the school seemed to forget about seniors as well. The graduation was online, and the kids got the bags with their stuff from lockers at the end of August. All said, she is now a Junior in college, and is doing fine. |
| I think my class of 2021 kid is making up for lost time but isn't stuck at 17. |
Tiktok comments are special |
The 2020 kids missed their first year of college, which I think is worse than missing the last year of high school. |
Mine took a gap year. |
| I wouldn't say he feels cheated, nor is he immature. He's just in a permanent slump. |
Same here. I agree with the both posted that the 2020 graduates were last ones to have a mostly normal high school experience and then with gap year as a possibility (DD’s college made this very easy, seemed to encourage it) the next stage wasn’t impacted too much either. I do think the ‘21-‘22 kids got the tougher deal. |

My 2022 graduate was shocked when she turned 19. She says she still feels 17 due to the pandemic.

Mine graduated in 2021. They don’t feel like they are in HS. They are sophomores I’m college and that’s how they feel. Odd post.
One did have a tough transition to college academically after 18 months in remote school but all good now. |
| One of mine was in grad school, totally felt cheated of the experiences she was hoping to have there. It practically turned into an online degree. It was easier to study because she had more time and less distractions but not fun at all. |
| All students from Kindergarten to MA/JD/MD etc were robbed of life experiences. |
I think so too. Mine is enjoying college but I do not think she recovered socially from on line freshman orientation, on line classes, no dining hall etc. |
| 2021 HS grad who is a sophomore in college and doing great (good grades, good friend group he met at college, girlfriend). And we have a good relationship. Couldn't ask for more |
