State inspection in NOVA

Anonymous
I made a mistake of taking my car for a state inspection at a dealership. They hit me with $$$ in bs repairs needed to pass the inspection. Where do you take your cars not to get ripped off?

Any gas station with a garage.

If you're anywhere near 22309 I've got a place for you, but NoVa is...kinda big.

This won't work if it'salready failed. After it's been inspected it's entered into a database tied to your VIN. The next place you take it will have the failed results. They cannot go against that.

Next year you should go to your local garage, sure. But state inspection has a list of functions and they either work or they don't. What does your dealer say isn't working?

I need a place that just does a very light touch inspection like lights, tires and brakes and doesn’t try to find things to fail. I am in Mclean Vienna area

It must take time to update. I took my dealership "failed" to a garage and they passed it with no repairs. The inspection is pretty much a scam unless your car is shooting smoke out the back.

It depends, as the inspection is subjective. I've failed at one repair shop and then went to my mechanic and it passed with flying colors.

What is the purpose of the database? I've went several years without a safety inspection and never had a problem registering my vehicle.

What? I find that hard to believe. What state?

And this is why you live in Maryland.

One inspection when you register the car and never again.

I don’t need the state telling me what to repair on my car.
