Affordable Montgomery County Neighborhood w/Good Schools?

Anonymous
We presently live in the Twinbrook neighborhood of Rockville, because, being 2 social workers, it is where we could afford to buy a house. Now that we have a toddler, though, I have researched & found that our local schools (Twinbrook elementary, etc) are not great. Financially, private school is not an option. Anyone know of affordable neighborhoods (please mention possible approximate purchase range) in Montgomery County with really good public schools?

TIA!

You can get a SFH with 3-5 bedrooms in Olney Mill in Olney. The neighborhood feeds into Belmont and Greenwood Elementary Schools which are fabulous. (Rosa Parks for middle; Sherwood for HS -- both are great schools.) Homes range from the low $400s to the low $500s.

Olney Mill is an older neighborhood (built in the 1960s) with mostly brick homes, all hardwood floors, etc. built on huge lots. The neighborhood has lots of parks, paths, etc. plus a neighborhood pool.

RE private schools: tuition at St. Jude's on Veirs Mill Road (near Twinbrook) is only $6,000 per year for parishioners.

I am interested in this too. Please, if you like where you live and like the public schools in your area, tell us where you are.

Hi. We live in an area with very good public schools (though we are not using them). Our school district is Kensington Parkwood - North Bethesda and Walter Johnson. Homes in this school district on the lower end are about $550 K. (There are also some listings in the $400s). The original homes in the neighborhood are smallish but workable for a small family. There are a lot of 3 bedroom capes and ramblers.

PP, I would be very interested in talking to you, as we drove through your neighborhood last weekend on our latest house search. The neighborhood is beautiful but we're unsure where the boundaries are for Kensington Parkwood vs. other schools.

Thanks!

11:17 poster here. Happy to talk to you about the neighborhood. Just leave an email address. Though I can't be of much help on the actual school lines.

Just to chime in. I don't live in Kensington-Parkwood, but think it is one of the best kept secrets in MC. I am in Bethesda and in a neighborhood that feeds into the same middle and h.s. Our home prices are higher and we lack the community swimming pool that I think creates a lovely community feel in K-P. I have several friends there an know they also have an active Mom's Group.

I don't have any firsthand knowledge, but the Post had a recent "Where We Live" article on the Rosemary Hill neighborhood in Silver Spring.

When I was looking for a house a few years ago, we saw some nice homes in the Kensington area. We liked the Chevy Chase View and Parkwood communities in Kensington.
