South American restaurant

Anonymous

I’m looking for a South American restaurant for my family to have a casual dinner tonight. We’re in Northern VA, but willing to drive to Southern MD or DC.

Oh, and I’m vegetarian by medical necessity, but the rest of my family eats meat.

Thanks for any recommendations!

South America is a big place. I think you’ll have the best luck finding vegetarian options at a Peruvian restaurant. Inca Social in Vienna is good—bet casual. If you eat any fish you’ll have tons of options.

Colombian? Brazilian? Argentinian? Peruvian? Narrow it down.

The back story is that we’d had Ethiopian one night, Indian the next, and wanted to try another continent.

If you know an Argentinian restaurant, I’d love to know. My nephew is fascinated with Argentina and I’d love to take him there next time he visits.

Thank you!

Really? I don't think it Peruvian as being great for vegetarians. But it is probably better than Argentinian!

Unfortunately, there’s no Argentinian restaurant in NoVA anymore. There’s one in Rockville, MD, but the quality of the meat snd vegetarian dishes has been going downhill. It’s not truly representative of the Argentinian excellent food. If you still want to try it, I recommend you “empanadas tucumanas” and flan con dulce de leche (a dessert).

OP, you can buy boxes of “alfajores” Havanna to share with your whole family. Each of the alfajores are wrapped individually. They are the best representative treat from Argentina. They are mouthwatering.

Joy by Seven Reasons in Chevy Chase - Latin influence but not sure it qualifies as south american.
