How long did it take for your teen to recover from wisdom teeth removal?

DD needs to get 4 wisdom teeth out since they are starting to bother her. Obviously each kiddo is different, but trying to see what the consensus is for recovery time. Oral surgeon says for a 17 yo they would expect a recovery in 3 days. Is that realistic? So many activities, exams coming up trying to figure out the best timing to do this. We were thinking of a Thursday and hoping she would be good to go in terms of swelling and food by Monday. Any experiences would be appreciated! TIA.

My 17 yr old has surgery on a Friday. He probably could’ve gone to school on Monday but he couldn’t eat much so I let him stay home. One got infected a few weeks later so he had to have them cut it open. He was okay to go to school the next day.

Remember that 4 day weekend MCPS had back in November? MCPS had a Monday and Tuesday off? I scheduled my 17 yo's wisdome teeth extraction for that Friday so she would have a very long weekend to recover. She needed it. She was still sore when she returned to school Wednesday.

My DD just had it done. She got them out on Friday and we let her stay home from school on Monday because they still hurt and she was still swollen. Tuesday was a little better (she went to school) and by Thursday she was fine though still not eating really hard foods.

I think I took off a Friday to have the surgery. I think I went to school the following Monday. I think I would say I was fully recovered in a week - I followed whatever the rules were for eating to avoid dry sockets, etc. I know I did during a break from XC and winter track also.

I did this at age 30, Friday morning was the surgery I was back at work Monday. A little groggy after a weekend of painkillers, but I was totally off pain med and pain free at that point. No issue. By Tuesday, grogginess was gone too.

Had them out on a Tuesday, and was still eating soft foods over the weekend (or has he said, he was only eating mush)

DD had them out Friday. Stopped taking pain meds after 1 day. Pretty much normal by Monday. She thought it would be much worse.

Mine had 4 removed at age 16. Recovery wasn't bad at all and he only needed pain meds the first day, maybe a little the second. However, there is a lot of cleaning to do after everything you eat using a syringe with salt water and he was on soft foods for a while I think. So, I would think it's ideal to do over a longer break so you can follow all the guidelines. At school you can't clean after a meal. I think part of the reason he healed so quickly is because he was obsessed with the protocol. His friend did it over a 3 day weekend and was fine back at school until he got an infection or dry sockets? His friend was pretty miserable so he wanted to avoid that.

Avoid exercise. That brought back all the swelling for my DD and recovery started over.

DS 18 got them out on a Friday. Ibuprofen only- no pain meds besides what the surgeon gave him. Back to school on Monday. Just make sure you ice every hour for the first 2 days (except overnight) and the swelling will be minimal (unless a problem occurs). DS said they didn’t hurt at all by Monday.

both were in good shape after 2 days- only one prescription pain reliever and then ibuprofen

+1. Same for my DS. He also had anesthesia for the procedure.

DD did not get a syringe...just had to rinse with salt water 3 times a day. Not hard to do at school.

DS (18) developed severe vertigo after the surgery probably because of the anesthesia or side effect of the pain relief pill. it lasted more than a week and he couldn't even leave the bed. we had to take him to ER.
